Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

I moved out of an apartment July 31, 2012. The company managing the property sent me a letter stating my refund of the security deposit on August 29, 2012. Now there has been a foreclosure deed recorded on Sept 6 2012. The bank that has taken over the property says that they are not liable for the security deposit. The previous owner said the signed all that over the the bank. Who owes me the security deposit?

Whoever has the money. the landlord remains liable for the funds. The bank owes it if the landlord gave it to them. You may have to sue both to determine who has it. If the amount is low enough, you can sue them in small claims court. You may need to have an attorney look over your lease agreement before deciding how to act.

Good luck
