Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

I moved into an apartment in St. Louis, MO in Feb of this year (2015). I immediately started having significant issues with my asthma, started sleeping up to 16 hours every day, and my 9yo started having nosebleeds over night, which he has never had. I June, while hanging a shelf in the bathroom, Black gunk (not sure how to describe it) came out of the wall when screwing the shelf in. I spoke with the landlord a day or two later, advising him that I think there is mold in the bathroom wall. He told me he had to replace the floors before I moved in because the previous tenant let water sit. He asked if I knew of anyone that handles mold and advised him I did not but would check around. I assumed he would also be working on this. Now it is August 1st, and I still have heard nothing from him. This week I also found what may be mold on the siding near my front door. Ive looked online and can only find companies that charge to check for it. As a single mom, living barely paycheck to paycheck, I dont have the ability to pay and be reimbursed. Ive looked online and cant find anything for this situation in the state of Missouri. What are my options?

There are companies around St Louis that Do the type of mold with that you describe. But, you may have to pay them to do it, then there are steps you can take to abate or discount your rent payments to get repaid. If that up front expense is not within the means, you probably should contact codes and enforcements to report the mikd as a health risk.

If you beloved that the landlord would pay the workmen, perhaps you should get a few estimates and submit.them to it landlord. Google mold removal, with your contacts turned on, and you'll get many providers to contact. Get several estimates. You don't own the property, so don't commit to it approve them starting work, until your landlord enters into a separate agreement with them

Good luck
