Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

I recently moved into a new apartment with a one-year lease. The landlord turned off the AC b/c I had a window open while cleaning one day after move-in and one early morning in bedroom due to a heat wave b/c the AC did not cool the whole apartment. Another day, the landlord comes knocking when I was in another tenants room just next door yelling at me that I had the AC on with the window open. I opened the door and showed the landlord my room which the window was open but the AC off. Landlord son comes yelling at me telling me I am a liar and starts cursing and comes close to hitting my face. Am I damaging the property of the landlord by opening a window for a short while with the AC running? Can the landlord accuse me of wrongdoing even if I was not in the apartment? And can the landlord start yelling and tell me I need to find another place to live? Thanks for your help.

When you rent a place, you are entitled to quiet enjoyment. If the yelling and frequent visits prevent your quiet enjoyment, then the landlord is breaching the lease. However, if your lease does not state it, you may not be entitled to free utilities. If you get the electriclal service for your aprtment trnasferred ov er to yrou name, the landlord can't say anything aobut you running the AC with the window open. If you can't transfer the service, and there is problem with the ventilation system not serving the entire apartment, you should bring this to the attention of the landlord, and note in writing when this occurs.
