Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri
I signed a two year lease and have lived here for 5 months now my landlord called and said the house foreclosed and he would be by to get his fridge and stove. He also said he wouldnt be able to give me my deposit back unless he came with a lawer to inspect the house. but he siad he might not be able to give it back? Nor will he give me the information on who is now in control of the place. What are my rights?

Under the new foreclosure law, renters who pay on time and are not otherwise in default may stay in their homes until the end of the lease, unless the bank sells the property to someone to use as their own residence. As to the deposit, the landlord must either return it in full or else promptly give you an itemized list of damages caused by the tenant. Either way, you cannot be thrown out and the landlord cannot keep your deposit without being subject to suit. Feel free to contact me if you need additional input as to your choices.
