Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri
My son and 4 other boys share a house in Kansas City, MO. They are college students and we parents are paying the rent. Over the summer my son sent an email to the landlords regarding repairs that needed to be made to the house. The only thing repaired was the air conditioning. The smell of sewer gases in his upstairs bathroom still exists as well as other items. How can he and his roommates get the other repairs made? We heard, recently, that if they have made their requests and nothing is done, they can withhold their rent - is this true?
Thank you for your time

What you heard is not completely accurate. If the needed repairs are not made, they may be able to get several estimates from repair firms and submit them to the landlord. If the landlord refuses to make the repairs, and the lease allows it, they may be able to pay for the repairs and subtract that amount form the rent they pay.
Good luck
