I was travelling out of town for work for a period of two weeks. During this time, I allowed my friend to borrow my car so he could move furniture. One night (after 10pm), when he was using my car, it broke down. The car wouldn't start. It was in a residential neighborhood with street parking. The next day on the calendar was street sweeping, and if the car didn't get moved, it would get a ticket for being on the wrong side of the street.
It was about midnight in my time zone when he called me about the program. He couldn't get jumper cables and nothign he could do would get it to start. It sat there overnight, and got a parking ticket the next day.
Eventually I was able to have the car towed while I was still out of town. the alternator died, which caused the car not to start. This was not a pre-existing problem and never happened before. I paid for the repairs.
My friend refuses to pay the parking ticket. I believe that he assumes responsiblity for the car whiel he drives it. It wouldn't have been on the street-sweeping street if he didn't use it. He drove it and parked it there and it got a ticket.
Who assumes responsibilitiy?

This is not a "Mediation" question, but rather a criminal matter. Resubmit under the right category. However, the owner of the car bears responsibility for an illegally parked car. (You allowed your friend to borrow your car, and it was left in a no parking area.).Choose your "friends" more carefully.
