Legal Question in Military Law in Missouri
Military deployment & child custody
I am being deployed for training and will be away for 8 months. My ex has threatened to change my kids school and says she will get full custody while I am away. Do I have any protection against her trying to change what has already been established by the custody agreement while I am gone?

Re: Military deployment & child custody
The "simple" answer is "yes," you do have protections upon being deployed. The hard answer as to "to what extent" simply cannot be answered here. Custody issues are complicated to begin with and all of the factors that led to your getting custody in the first place need to be reviewed. Second, without reviewing the specific terms of your custody agreement, no lawyer can "guess" the answer to your questions.
Please contact the lawyer who originally represented you in your divorce/custody case -S/he will be in the best position to assist you. Remind them that you have additional rights under the Federal "Soldiers & Sailors Civil Relief Act" in addition to your State laws.
Good luck to you, and from a fellow Vet, thanks for your service.
