Legal Question in Military Law in Missouri

TDY/TAD rules

Some years back I recall a case where an officer was on TDY to Europe and had his wife meet him there. She traveled at personal expense but they stayed together during is trip. The Army argued that he had violated regulations and should be punished. What is the military law associated with a case of this sort? Is it in fact illegal for his wife to accompany him OCONUS and share accomodations?

No it's not illegal to travel together at ANY TIME or to stay in the same hotel room together.

But what that officer did, and what many unfortunately do, is charged the Army for the cost of his wife staying at the hotel.

What you are supposed to do is pay the double occupancy rate in the hotel, but ONLY claim the single person rate. That's the theft -- that's how the Army ended up paying for the wife, and he "stealing" per diem funds.
