Legal Question in Personal Injury in Missouri
I am in the final stages of settlement of an auto accident. My husband and I have been asked to sign a Release of All Claims to have my medical bills, loss of work time and pain and suffering paid to me. The second paragraph states "It is understood and agreed that this settlement is the compromise of a doubtful and disputed claim, and that the payment is not construed as an admission of liability on the part of those hereby released, by whom liability is expressly denied." Is this standard? The person who caused the accident was charged by the police officer, the insurance company paid for my car and will be paying me for my medical bills, etc. once this document is signed. He was at fault. I am not planning on any more action, but is it usual that they still do not admit fault?
Thank you very much.

That horrible paragraph is in nearly every settlement agreement through an insurance company.
