Legal Question in Personal Injury in Missouri

Why homeowners insurance will NOT pay for medical injury down time from work and

I was helping a friend measure his roof at his home. I bent down to clip measuring tape on to the roof & stepped on what I thought was a secondary roof structure, I fell through, leg got caught up, twisted & dislocated as i fell through. Went to emergency room at local hospitel, got x-rays & medical treatment. They reccomended follow up with orthopedic specialist. I did just that the following week. Specialist at that time said pain and swelling still to sever to diagnose see a physical therapist. Made appointment for the following week for just that. In the meantime friends Insurance CO. siad they would only pay up to 1000 dollers to include medical bills. Its been three weeks I cant work ( being in sales ) therefore no income for family, and no In surance to cover this accident I.E.. downtime medical bills pain & suffering. Could I please get some advise on what I can do for compensation.
