Legal Question in Personal Injury in Missouri
Time limits
How long should it take for a lawer to settle an injury claim after all witnesses, phone numbers, have been turned in? We contact the Lawer, however all we get is a answering machine. And never had a call returned yet. Thanks

The previous response is a good one, but I would add that you have an absolute right to fire the attorney who does not return your calls. If I was a client and I left repeated messages asking for a return call with no response, I would write the attoney a letter discharging him or her and requesting the immediate return of my file. I would then take the matter to a more responsive attorney. Good luck!
Re: Time limits
It all depends on the case! In most instances, you are better off, time and money wise, to have your case settled before a lawsuit is filed. That being the case, it can take time to negotiate a settlement, and I always try everything possible to make sure a lawsuit is necessary before I quit negotiation!
The communication problem is a different question. One of the primary complaints folks have with their attorneys is communication, or the lack thereof. You have a right to hear from your attorney and get status updates on your case regularly- not necessarily daily or weekly, but often enough that you know you are in good hands, and not just a number.
