Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

Apartment lease

I had a roommate, that I shared an apartment with. She moved out in October of 2002, with 5 months left on the lease. She refused to sign someting saying that she had moved out and was no longer financially responsible for the apartment. My lease has now expired and I am unable to resing a new lease without her signing it or signing something stating that she has moved out. Is there any kind of legal action I can take to force her to sign a statement saying that she no longer lives there. Also, when she moved out in October she did not give me any notice and did not give me any payment for the remaining 5 months of rent. I am not asking for any reimbursment just for her to take her name of of the lease.

Re: Apartment lease

If your lease is expired, then you do not need any signature from any former roomate. The landlord is free to offer you a new lease or not. Perhaps the landlord is requiring a cosigner for credit reasons. I would suggest that you discuss this with the landlord.
