Contract cancellation

We signed a contract to purchase a condo in May of 2005. The expected move in date is March or April of 2006.

On three occasions,all documented, we asked for a copy of the signed contract, never received signed copy. Late 9/2005 we sent letter advising we were cancelling the contract. One week later we received a copy of contract. They say we cannot cancel.

My question is, do we have a period of time to back out of a contract after it is signed AND RECEIVED? Or just after it is signed?

did you at anytime see that the other party sign before you cancelled? what does the contract specify about the time in which to accept the offer, if anything?
