Your answer is in the lease. Depending upon the lease terms, you may be able to terminate the lease early with or without penalty in certain circumstances. If you don't understand all or part of the lease terms, I would suggest you have an attorney review it for you and let you know what your options are with regard to early termination of the lease extension. Of course, you can always negotiate with the landlord on your own; however, many times landlords are unwilling to let tenants out of their leases early, particularly if they have other units on the property that are unrented. In order to competently answer your question, I believe that it would be necessary for the attorney to review your lease. Many leases contain a specific provision allowing the tenant to terminate the lease early if the tenant is required to relocate by the tenant's employer. I would suggest that you have an attorney review the lease. Good luck.
