What you can do to protect your credit rating depends upon "how" you bought the car with your former girlfriend. The easiest method is to make the payment when she doesn't. If you are just a guarantor, then you may not yet have the authority to repossess the vehicle. If you are a coborrower, then you may have the authority to posess the vehicle whether she is behind on payments or not. You should contact the lnder or current creditor. They may share information with you regarding their plans for repossession or collection. If not, you may get them moving by attempting to end your promise to pay the debt. You may have to take them to court to do this.

Good luck
