Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

A friend from work allowed me to stay with her for a while until I get back on my feet. While I was there, I paid half of the electric bill & half of her rent (due dec 3). A couple days after rent was paid, she started threatening to kick me out & threatening to put my stuff out. I told her not to touch my things, and I brought a friend with me (as a witness) to retrieve my belongings peacefully. She got in my face, threatened to kick my you-know-what, and proceeded to attack me. She scratched up my face, pulled out my hair...all of that. When the police got there, they stated they could take us both to jail on assault charges. I've suffered pain and suffering due to the attack & I had to go to the ER for treatment. Now she's with-holding my belongings on a hunch that I stole her phone. I want my belongings back, as well as for her to give me back the half of rent I paid AND I want her to pay medical bills I have due to her attacking me. Do I have a case?

Under teh facts you described, it appears that you have acivil suit that coudl be heard by yrou local circuit court. The dollar amount of your damges, may not be enough to warrant hiring an attorney to present your case in court. You may opt to bring yrou case in small claims court, or hire an attorney to assist you in preparing a Pro Se Plaintiff case in Associate circuit court. You should gather your doucments and see a personal injury attorney in yoru area. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation. This matter may be cleared up by a letter from that attorney to your former roomate.

Good luck
