Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri
Inherited Land
My brother rented the house our Dad willed us at his death without my knowledge. I found out and asked for half the income. He called the tennant and asked him to leave rather than work with me. The tenant let him cool down and called back and asked to stay. My brother relented, but has never shared the income. If I ask for it again, he may kick the tenant out. The tenant is a great asset because he is fixing up the house and keeping the grounds mowed, etc. Would a contract with the tenant for a year without my brother's signature be binding? Please suggest other alternatives.

Re: Inherited Land
It is unfortunate that your father left property to you and your brother and the two of you can't get along easily. In cases such as this, I advise people to offer to buy out the other person, or offer to sell that person your interest in the property. If this won't work, then you can hire an attorney, file a suit in partition and the Court will order the property sold with the proceeds being divided between the tow of you. Good luck.
