Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri
IN Jan 2011 I moved out of my rental unit. I had a month to month lease and I let the landlord know on the first that I would be out by the 30th. When i moved in I paid first and last but no deposit because I had to clean the rental unit myself. Anyway a snow storm (20in) hit in the middle of the month and even though I was not staying there I left the electric on 60 and I am still paying the electric bill to date. I could not physically get to the unit because of the snow but once I could when I got in the unit the water was not working.I finished moving the best that I could (with no water) and moved on. A month passed and I had not heard from the landlord until he showed up at my work demanding to speak to me and demanding my work schedule, The secretary informed him that was not possible and he got ansry and told her that I had violated a rental agreement with him and that he could go to the cops if he wanted. Then wehen I spoke to my co workers they informed that he had been to my work on a weekend demanding the same info from them.At my work he knows this could get me fired. He has my cell but I do not have his. I do not know what to do!
1 Answer from Attorneys
Hire an attorney to write a letter to your former landlord demanding that all future communications go throough the attorney, and that no more work site visits will be tolerated.
