Legally may I hold a workers tools as a lien against unfinished work?

There are rare situations where you can do that. But, in many cases, a court will den that you bought those items at the price it will cost to replace them. If materials were bought specific to your project, you can hold onto those. I do not recommend that you hold our take tools.
