If the notice was palced upon yoru doorstep on or after June first, it may only be effective to have you our by July 31st. If it wa ther by May 31st, then you may have to move out by June 30th. That is assuming you are a month-to-month renter. If you you have a written elase agreemetn that is for more than a month at a time, then the landlord may not be able to evict you before the natural expiration of the lease. Unless there are demonstratable damges to teh opremises, I see no reason, under the facts you described, for the landlord to keep any of your security deposit. If you are not sure whether you are a month-to-month renter, you may need to consult direclty with an attorney in your area. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation. Have that attorney look at whatever documentation you have, make yourself available answer their for follow up questions.
