Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

We live in Missouri and we have been living in a house that we have been working on in leu of rent ($250.00 per month) We have been putting most of our money into the house and have not been able to save anything for ourselves. Today the landlords daughter came and gave us a 30 days notice to vacate the premisis because the house has been sold. Since we have been here (5 months) we have been looking for a better place to rent because there were too many problems here and we havent been able to find anything. My question to you is: What are our rights? Do we have to be out in 30 days even if we dont have a place to go?

Unless you have awritten lease that says otherwise, you are a month to month renter. you or the landlord can terminate the lease with a thirty day notice. If you stay beyond August 31, 2010, the landlord can fiel and unlawful detainer action against you. After that the court can approve teh Sheriff's deputies to come nad evict you from the premises.

Before you move, you should confirm with the landlord, that his daughter has authority to act on his behalf as to the property. You might also file to get recompensed for money you spent to improve the property.

Good luck
