I was past due on reting a building I eventually purchased. The seller now wants me to pay the past due rent- amd I liable

Unless there was a separate agreement, you purchased the lease with the building when title passed.. So you might owe rent to yourself If the lease was separate from the purchase the former landlord might be able to sue you for back rent. You need to consult directly with a civil precipice attorney in your area, to determine the status of the lease
