How do I start the process to have property partitioned?

I would suggest that you need to hire an attorney. I have prosecuted lawsuits for Partition and they are neither simple nor easy. Of course, a consultation with an attorney experienced in these matters might provide you with the information you need to avoid going to court in the first place.
