Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

I recently bought a 1955 Desoto. Tho I received a title for it, it's not a clear title. The guy I bought it from nor the guy before him registered the car in their name. Title shows it was sold back in 1990. Being that it's been 20 years that no one has paid property taxes and most likely not in the system anymore, I supose trying to get the guy that legaly owned the car, and get him to apply for a duplicate title would be out of the Question?

If not, what do you recomend?

Thanks, for your help in advance.

Mike

Without knowing anything else about the title record, it appears tht you ahve three options.

1) See if the Dor Will grant you anew title based upon the singed title you now have, if not then

2) Apply for asalvage titel fo rthe vehicle. (if it has nto been licensed for twenty years, it probably needs extensive work.If you qualify for a salvage title, you may not have to pay the taxes for the twenty years) or

3) File a suit to quiet the title. In the suit you allege the factx that you have dscribed here. ( You get title and may avoid any back tax debt)

Good luck
