Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri
We have just recently found out that our home is quite possibly on someone else's property. We purchased this home along with 3.6 acres 4 years ago and the realtor walked the property with us to show us our boundaries and there were some survey flags along some of the property, a survey had just been done within 6 months. Due to a current property line dispute with a neighbor, we went to the county courthouse where we obtained property descriptions and maps...these documents show that where our home is situated, it is not on our property. We are in the process of getting a survey and if this proves that our home is not on our property, what are our options and where do we go from there? Thank you.

Yours is a great example of why people get title insurance. If you used a title company whe n you bought this property, you should be covered. Contact the title company to make a claim. If for some reason you ar ento covered, you may need to get a permanent easement from the landowner. In that case, you should consult with an attorney directly as to this matter.
