Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

I recently won a property at a tax sale at the courthouse steps, and was told that I do not yet technically own the property, but will have to wait approximately a year for everything to be legal. I was wondering why such a long wait, and if there was anything I'm not aware of that would speed up the process?

You may be able to buy the redemption rights, or other remaining interests of the present owner. An attorney in your area should be able to assist you.
