Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

how much trouble am i in?

i was transrerred here for my job.when lease was originally signed ,it included my husband.due to legal problems of his own, he did not move with us and i had his name removed from lease.after being here for 3 months, i lost my job and was unable to pay the last 3 months of rent on the 6 month lease.we have moved out of the apt, and i know i still owe those 3 months pluslandlords legal fees for filing for my eviction.the question is, if i do not attend court for trial on this today, can i be arrested?...i really need all the time i can find to look for another job and attend interviews, and i have a young child at home as well, who goes to school while i'm out pounding the pavement.

Re: how much trouble am i in?

No, you are not going to be "arrested". If the landlord sued you for money, and you don't show up on your court date, the landlord will obtain a Judgment against you by default. This is a civil case, not a criminal case. The landlord may then garnish your wages or your bank account or try to collect his money by legal process, but you are not subject to "arrest". You might consider contacting the landlord or his attorney and making arrangements to pay the debt off over time. Good luck.
