Legal Question in Traffic Law in Missouri
Is my attorney representing me fairly?
I am in the process of going through the court system at this moment. This week could bring the situation to a close or plea. I called my attorney and asked if any new evidence was released and he admitted to not looking at the file. Court is 4 days away. He asked if I was up to date with his bill. I have never seen one but he said I owed him another $500 and it might be continued longer. I have no previous driving or legal issues. I am nervous about court and this has been going on since May. There were no injuries or deaths in this accident. I think I hit someone who is related to the court and pointed this out and he said it was no big deal. I feel like I am about to go to slaughter.

Please take my advice and call your attorney again. Ask for an appointment to come in and discuss the details of your case with your attorney prior to your court date. Especially if you are paying your attorney a sizable amount of money you are entitled to a complete explanation of everything involving the handling of your case. I am confident that your attorney will be able to put you more at ease once you meet and get the explanation you are entitled to. If not, you have every right to discharge your attorney and hire someone else. I would look at this option as a last resort since it would probably mean a delay in the final disposition of your case. Good luck!

I agree with Mr. Nack. Ask your present attorney what the likely and possible outcomes are. Without knowing more about your situation, it is impossible to tell you if the attorney not looking at the file four days before a court date is reasonable.
For minor traffic ordinance violations, it is not uncommon to look at teh file the day before court, as they are somewhat routine. However, you mentioned an accident, but not what you are charged with, so there ay be call for earlier preperation.
Good luck,
