Legal Question in Traffic Law in Missouri

How much compensation should I receive?

In Oct. of 2000, I was a passenger in my friend's car which was hit from behind. We were waiting to turn left, and the guy behind us wasn't watching. Both of us got whiplash, though I feel mine was a little more serious of a degree, being that the car hit the back right corner. I went through some physical therapy after the accident, though it didn't help much. I called the insurance company to settle as long as they paid future therapy costs. They offered me $1200. My medical bills up to this day total $3389.44. I declined the offer then mainly due to the fact they would only allow 3 months of therapy to be paid from that date if I settled. I still do feel neck and back pains, mainly during bad weather. I think I've gone to about as much therapy that's going to heal it. I'd like to settle without a lawyer. How much should I settle for, and how do I go about getting that amount?

Re: How much compensation should I receive?

If you want to settle your claim without an attorney, why are you using this service to obtain the opinions of an attorney? In my opinion you are making a mistake trying to handle this claim yourself. I have seen many other people like yourself taken advantage of by the insurance companies in the incorrect belief that you will get more money by not having to pay attorney's fees. An attorney will be able to get you more money than you will get for yourself even after the attorney's fees are deducted from the recovery. I hope that you contact an attorney and that you have not already caused damage to the value of your claim.

Re: How much compensation should I receive?

The case is worth about $7500. You'll need a lawyer to collect in that range. Please contact me for help. I would take the case on a 1/3 contingency. 314 725-8000
