Legal Question in Traffic Law in Missouri

Hit and Run--what are our rights?

My husband was driving to work last week and was hit from behind by white Tahoe. As my husband was pulling over to inspect the damage, the vehicle that hit him took off. My husband followed the vehicle to get a license plate# but was only able to get the first 3 #'s and the white Tahoe was speeding to get away. However, when he called in the accident, the police dispatcher advised that an eye witness has called in a 911 report and gave a full vehicle description and full license plate#. Our insurance agent won't help us get the other driver's info. or the info of the eye witness. We filed a police report and were told we could get a copy of it in 7-10 days but the police dept. doesn't seem to want to give us the info from the 911 call to purse the driver to file a claim and repair our vehicle. The damage estimate was $2400.00. We want to contact the other driver, get ins. info and make him be responsible for what he has done but aren't getting any help from anybody. what can we do and what are our rights? What if the driver doesn't cooperate or doesn't have ins.?

First, get pictures and estimates of damage to the vehicle. Second, pursue the other driver. If there is not any insurance, then, pursue your own. Also, call Department of Revenue for a hearing. You need to do this within a year of the accident.
