Legality of a 49cc Pit Bike

A friend of mine brought his pit bike down to school and we've been riding it around lately. Well i rode it today and i got pulled over for going 18 over the speed limit. Now I was told this bike is street legal, however there is no speedometer on this bike, and it is legal to ride without a helmet and headlights and everything. This was at 4pm in the afternoon not even dark out. But is there anything i can do to get out of this? i realize the ticket is for speeding, but being on a bike that's not even as big as i am, with no speedometer? Any response would be great! Thanks!

The items you point out qabout the bike perhaps not being street legal are possible other offences you could have been cited for. There may be ways to avoid a conviction on the speeding tickt, but they are not due to teh size of the vehicle (you can get a speeding ticket on a bicycle) You should consult directlu with an attorney in the area where the ticket took place. They will discuss teh pertinent facts of your individual case. Possibly, they can get aplea agreement for you, such as defective equipment.
