Legal Question in Traffic Law in Missouri

I recently received a speeding ticket in the city of Fenton, MO. (84 MPH in a 60 MPH Zone)

I was instructed to call a phone number on the back of the ticket. I did so, and I was told that any speeding violation in excess of 20 MPH of the posted speed limit requires an appearance before the judge.

I do not wish to challenge the validity of the citation. In order to attend the scheduled court appearance, I will have to drive four hours there, four hours back, and miss a day of work costing me over $500. This seems unreasonable to me.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely. Hire an attorney. Many times an attorney can work out a better deal with the prosecuting attorney and you may not ever have to appear in court. Why would you want to just plead guilty? Doing so may cause 2-3 points to be assessed against you driver license (depending how you were charged), plus you will have to pay a fine and you insurance may increase significantly. An attorney may be able to negotiate a better plea where you would pay a fine, maybe attend driving school, but keep the points off your license and the conviction off your record which would also keep your insurance down. Each case is different and depends in the court you are in and the individual driver's record, but If you would like to discuss your case, feel free to contact me at (314) 205-8136 or visit my traffic website at www.submitmytickets.com.
