Legal Question in Traffic Law in Missouri

Seatbelt Law

I own a very old truck that has no seatbelts. Do I have to pay to have seatbelts put it this truck, or am I O.K. because the truck was made without them?

Re: Seatbelt Law

If you have antique vehicle tags, you MAY be able to get an exception from the state. You will be severely limited in where and how much you can drive the vehicle. If you plan to drive it more than in parades and on and off a show trailer, you will probably do better to get restraining belts installed. I highly suggest that you do not carry any passengers without restraints. If they were to be injured in any kind of collision, you would have a very dificult time defending a civil suit, even if the accident were not your fault.

If you feel that installing belts would reduce the value of your vehicle, you have an economic decision to make, weighing the value of your life. That is if you intend to operate the vehicle in parades. If this is not a "show" or "parade" vehicle, then the decision should be easier.

I once put belts from J.C. Whitney in an old truck of mine. It cost me about $40 back in the eighties. I imagine it would not cost much more than twice that now. Is yrou life worth $80?
