Legal Question in Traffic Law in Missouri
speeding tickets
when I received my ticket the police officer put a court date on the ticket - I was going 20 miles over the speed limit. when I went to the hearing they informed me that the court system had not received my ticket and that they would send me a notice in the mail to appear. I did and it was for today. when i went up there the court system informed me that I will need to take two driving courses and then come back to another court date in October. All of this is 1 hour and 30 minutes away. so now this will be my 3rd court hearing. All I want to do is pay my fine and stop wasting my time - I have lost now 4 hours of pay today and 3 hours of PTO the first time and all the driving. Is there something i can do? a friend told me to try talking to the prosecuting atty and use economic hardship and get it reduced - what do you think?

Please do not think that all attorneys who post responses to questions on this website are simply soliciting new business like Greg Kessler does. I know that there are many attorneys on this site who really want to donate a little time and advice to help people. In regards to your situation, if you had hired an attorney in the first place, you would have avoided losing any time from work and also avoided the driving. From your post I can't be sure, but it sounds to me like you have already entered into some type of plea bargain, or entered a plea and the judge is requiring driving school. It may still be possible for an attorney to provide a valuable service to you, but that attorney would need to know all of the facts. You should probably consult with an attorney to see if it would be to your advantage to hire legal counsel at this point in the proceedings. Good luck.
