Every ciminal charge has a statutory limitation period. The length depends upon the crime alleged. Generally, the mroe severe the crime, the longer the period in which to bring criminal charges.
Are you instead talking about a civil suit between a driver and an injured party? The period is five years unless there is a writing to make the period longer. In rare cases, a written and signed check can extend the period to ten years.
