Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Missouri

can the irs or the state or anyone else try to collect a debt of someone who has been dead for almost 2 years? i have been served a petition of an interpleader stating their are excess funds left from her estate, but myself, the irs and the state are also listed as defendants.

All potential creditors can try to collect the debt owed to them. If the estate has not been closed, and the irs and and other credtiors kept up with their claim, the excess money will distributed according to priority or a portion to each creditor. Otherwise, the heirs can petition to get the money.
