Re: Locating last will of father

If your father's will has already been filed, it is a matter of public record. Go to the clerk's office in the probate court in the county where your father lived. It may also be filed in the county where he owned real estate. If the will has not been filed with the probate court, the most obvious place to look would be in your father's safe deposit box. However, unless you were a joint owner of the box, you will need to take extra steps in order to view its contents. Ask the bank officer where your father banked. If there was no safe deposit box, the will might have been kept in a safe, strongbox, file cabinet or other such place at your father's home. If your father had an attorney it is possible that the attorney kept the original will at his office. You might try asking the attorney. Finally, if there is anyone else who was close to your father, you might consider just asking them if they know of the whereabouts of any will. I hope that these suggestions have been helpful.
