my mom died with no will or any legal documentation, her neighbors said my mom said that they could have everything in the house and they are now trying for the house and land since they supposedly took care of her. i am her only child, what are my rights and the statue of limitations after she died ( nov 1 2008) for the family contact me to settle the estate

As the only legal heir at law, and if your mother had no will, you would be entitled to her entire estate. You need to engage an attorney in the county in which your mother resided and file a petition for appointment of a personal representative, and do it sooner rather than later. If the people claim some sort of agreement with your mother, they are going to have to prove it with facts, not just their self serving statements. Best of luck.
