Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Missouri

renovating home belonging estate of husbands grandparents

My husband and I have started renovating the 125 year old home of his grandparents that currently belongs to an estate administered by my husbands father. Currently this house is worthless due to the condition it is in. This house will require an incredible amount of money to become liveable, i.e. electricity, water, heat. While we are commited to renovations my husband's father seems unwilling to contribute to the renovation and my husband wants to continue to move forward. My concern is that while ''our money'' is being used in this renovation, the home will never belong to me and if something happens to my husband, his siblings and or children from his first marriage could ask me to leave. What, if any claim do I have to the house if we do renovate it with our money?

Re: renovating home belonging estate of husbands grandparents

Your husband and you could make aclaim against teh estate for the cost of the renovations (minus reasonable rent for the period you are living in the house) and thereby have your investment somewhat protected.

Good Luck
