Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Missouri
Sons Rights After Father Passes Away
My father, whom I am the only child of, recently passed away. He has lived with his girfriend for about the past 20 years. He has several belongings that I would like to have, but am not getting. Her ''son'' has made several comments about sellings personal things that I feel should rightfully come to me. What rights do I have and what can I do to freeze anything from disappearing? His girlfriends name is on many things like his vehicle, checking accounts etc. My father doesnt have much, but I would like his personal belongings before they end up in the pawn shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Sons Rights After Father Passes Away
You need to apply for letters, i.e. open a probate estate for your father. That will give you power to gather your father's assets to be able to pepare an inventory. You will need an attorney to do this. As time is the essence (assets may be sold soon) you should contact an attorney in teh area where your father was domiciled as soon as possible.
