Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Missouri

No Will Left By My Father

My father died with out a will. My stepmother has since sold one of the house he owned and is in the process of selling the other. She stated after giving us a few of the senitimental things that he told her what was his was hers even though for years since I was a kid he always told me and my sister differently. My stepmother has since ended all contact with us and is keeping family heirlooms of my dads family. What can I do to get these things that are rightfully ours as his surving issue? We want none of the money from the sales of the homes, just these few things that was in our family for almost 100 years.

If it is nto too late, you may need to open an estate for your father. Then all of the items that did not pass at the moment of his death would have to be accounted for. You only have a limited time in which ot do this. if assets are disapearing, you need to act even quicker than the law requires. Consult a probate attorney in your area soon.

Good Luck
