Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Missouri

Are wills public records

Trying to find out if I am part of my former adopted fathers family will. His father (Grandpa)we believe included us in his will. But dead beat dad, is not answering our questions. Is there a way to search public records to find out if we were included? How much information is available? can an attorney find this information for us?

Thanks

Re: Are wills public records

Check the circuit court of the Missouri county in which Grandpa resided when he died. A probate estate may have been opened in that county and the will filed with the court. If the will was filed, it is public record.

How sure are you that Grandpa a) had a will, and b) included you in it? If very sure, it might be worth it to open a probate estate yourself and subpoena "deadbeat" to produce the will.

Re: Are wills public records

Wills are normally public record if probated. Check Probate Ct. of your county. It may have been a trust which is not Public record. An attorney can help you through the hoops and if necessary with litigation against deadbeat dad. Feel free to call for any assitance. 314 725-8000
