Breaking a vow of silience

A man take on a job as CEO of a spirtual orginization. He see many corrupt and unethical things going on. He is eventually forced out of his position, and blackmailed not to say anything he has seen to the congregation. He signs a vow of silence and is given a large severence pay to retain that silence.

Q. Is there any law that would allow him to break that vow of silence?

An American citizen is always free to breach his contracts and repudiate his word. There may be a high price for such actions, but the ability remains. In this case one would have to review the written documents attendant to the arrangement to know for sure, but one could reasonably expect to have to return the severance money if the terms of the severance agreement are not kept, and there could be other consequences.
