Legal Question in Consumer Law in Montana
Sale of Vehicle with Lien
Is it illegal to sell a motorcycle or vehicle before getting a lien release? I want to sell a motorcyle and use the proceeds to pay towards the motorcycle and borrow the rest to pay off the balance. I was told by the lien holder that it was illegal to sell without first getting the lien released. I don't agree since I recently purchased another motorcyle from a dealer; title was transferred but waited over a month for the lien release.

It may not be a CRIME, but what idiot was fork over money for a vehicle that had a lien on it? You could skip to the Bahamas and they would have to pay off the loan to get clear title.
