A person who misleads an officer might be chared with the misdemeanor crime of obtructing a peace officer. The more important question, I think, is will the person be charged? It is not a serious misdemeanor, but small town dynamics could make it a possibility that a charge could be made. You may have defenses to this charge, if made, that would make conviction another matter. Good Luck!!
