Legal Question in Criminal Law in Montana

probation officer problems

My son is on probation in Montana and is having a great deal of difficulty with his probation officer. He has had quite a bit of trouble with her in the past. Her behavior is not entirely professional and my son wants to know what he can do, what his rights are. He feels his ability to successfully fulfill his probation obligations are being hindered by this person and wants to know what to do about this in a legal manner. Can you help?

Re: probation officer problems

My suggestion is this, ask the probation officer's boss to assign you son a new P.O. Most probabion officers that I have dealt with are good, but strict. Most, but not all by any means, of my clients have very little ability to follow through with anything and the probation officers sometimes get frustrated and impatient with this. Changing probation officers may not solve your son's problem, but it can't hurt. He really does have to do what they want him to do on their schedule and that's never easy. People have to work and take care of other obligations in their lives and coordinate that with reporting etc. Its also hard for an adult to ask permission to change jobs, residences, or to buy something on credit. Good luck to your son.
