A child does not make parental choices. Adult children, however, do have the right to determine personal matters such as with whom the adult child spends time. However, if the child is mature enough to cogently express her/his opinion and wishes, the child can ask to speak with the judge during a hearing for modification of parenting. It's done in-chambers, with only the child, the judge, and a third person -- the Guardian ad Litem or a member of the court staff.
