Legal Question in Family Law in Montana

Hear Say of Possible Child Endangerment

If someone hears of a possible dangerous situation of a child, is it illegal not to report it since a) it's in another state and b) wouldn't that be considered ''hear say''? My brother who lives in a different state (not OK or MT)just got full custody of his oldest son. His other two younger sons live with the mother in MT. I have heard she is strung out on drugs. My brother wants to try and get custody of the other two. The oldest son said that she would just soon kill the other two sons rather than have him get custody. This is very very disturbing to me. What can be done to insure the safety of the two younger children?

Re: Hear Say of Possible Child Endangerment

Thanks for your question. I don't believe that it would be illegal as to what you described. If you have a concern for the safety of the children give the information to the father or contact local social services and report it. There is no way to completely protect against irrational behavior but you can try.
