Legal Question in Military Law in Montana

awol

My son decided he wanted out of the army and, after getting a ''hot piss'' test and being told he would NOT be kicked out, he went AWOL the first week of May 07 (three weeks ago). He called his commanding officer after the first three days and told him where he was and that he would be back at the end of the month. Now he is heading back in a few days...I am wondering what will happen to him now...what is the legal process that will start when he returns, and what he should do to prepare a defense for himself?

Re: awol

The military will ultimately decide what course of action to take with your son. Your son should consult an attorney about his case. Your son's commander could be compassionate with your son if there are mitigating circumstances as why he went AWOL. Your son should start collecting information or documents that could help hime in his case.
