Re: What is the value of a verbal agreement and will it hold up in court?
Verbal agreements or oral contracts do hold up in court so long as the agreement was not required to be in writing. Contracts for the sale of land, for the sale of goods over $500, and any contract that can not be performed within a year are contracts that are required to be in writing. The other problem with oral contracts is that it turns into a battle of he said, she said.
